Bacon Cheddar Scones
Packed with crispy bacon, sharp cheddar, and fresh chives, these savory scones are the perfect comfort food for breakfast, brunch, or anytime you're craving something warm and buttery from the oven.

Ingredients

  • (2 cups) flour
  • (1 tbsp) sugar
  • (2 1/2 tsp) baking powder
  • (3/4 tsp) garlic powder
  • (1/2 tsp) salt
  • (1/4 tsp) black pepper
  • (3 tbsp) chives
  • (1 cup) cheddar cheese, small diced
  • (1/2 cup) cold butter, small diced
  • (2/3 cup) buttermilk
  • (1) egg
  • (8 strips) Cured Bacon

Directions

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Dice butter into small cubes and place in the freezer while preparing the next ingredients. 

In a large bowl, mix together flour, sugar, baking powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Stir in the chives and cheddar. Add the cold butter to the flour mixture and use a pastry cutter to mix in until the dough pinches together. 

Mix the buttermilk and egg yolk (save the egg white). Pour into the flour mixture and gently. 

Pour onto a floured counter and mix until it can be shaped into a circle. Cut into 8 slices about 1 inch thick. 

Add a little buttermilk to the egg white and brush on top of the dough. Place individual slices on a baking sheet and bake for 22-25 minutes. Do not overbake.
