Bacon Cheddar Scones

Ingredients
- (2 cups) flour
- (1 tbsp) sugar
- (2 1/2 tsp) baking powder
- (3/4 tsp) garlic powder
- (1/2 tsp) salt
- (1/4 tsp) black pepper
- (3 tbsp) chives
- (1 cup) cheddar cheese, small diced
- (1/2 cup) cold butter, small diced
- (2/3 cup) buttermilk
- (1) egg
- (8 strips) Cured Bacon
Directions
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Dice butter into small cubes and place in the freezer while preparing the next ingredients.
In a large bowl, mix together flour, sugar, baking powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Stir in the chives and cheddar. Add the cold butter to the flour mixture and use a pastry cutter to mix in until the dough pinches together.
Mix the buttermilk and egg yolk (save the egg white). Pour into the flour mixture and gently.
Pour onto a floured counter and mix until it can be shaped into a circle. Cut into 8 slices about 1 inch thick.
Add a little buttermilk to the egg white and brush on top of the dough. Place individual slices on a baking sheet and bake for 22-25 minutes. Do not overbake.
